The Traveling Fashionista’s Dilemma
Share
Wanderlust /ˈwändərˌləst/ noun
1. a strong desire to travel.
“It is better to see something once than to hear about it a thousand times.”
This is recorded as an Asian proverb with no known author but anyone who’s traveled will agree with this statement 100%. There’s absolutely nothing like taking in all the sights, sounds, and tastes of an entirely different part of the amazing world we live in.
Years ago, it seemed nearly impossible to have a proper vacation without a travel agency, but now we have countless travel sites and get deal alerts sent to our mobile devices making it so much easier to enjoy traveling and to do so more frequently. And with social media nowadays we are exposed to incredible images of breathtaking new places to feed our wanderlust for years and years to come.
Traveling is the best then, right? It’s all fun and games till you get to packing! We’ve all been there planning our trips, bookmarking photos on social media of these so-called “influencers” wearing some incredible dress on the Great Wall of China or on some impossible fjord in Norway and suddenly a slight sense of defeat comes upon you and you think… I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR.
As I write this, mind you, I’m laughing. It’s funny. You realize this is an entirely self-inflicted and irrational pressure, but you can’t help but feel it sometimes. You are ready to create memories and you are ready to do so in style. The key though is to be balanced. The memories will be amazing because you hopefully are making them with people you care about, and the experiences will be new and exciting because it is new and exciting no matter what you’re wearing.
With that being said, you also want to feel comfortable. Countries don’t come with dress codes but being respectful of local customs is always appropriate and welcome. Check out different wardrobe ideas for the country you will be visiting on Pinterest. You’ll be surprised about how many pieces you already own, and it will make it easier to identify those you feel might help complete your look. Traveling can be expensive and if it comes between buying new clothes or experiencing an exciting excursion, choosing the latter is always the best option. Visiting your local consignment or thrift store however is always a fun way to have that something new feeling without breaking the bank. If you live near or are visiting the Texas Hill Country stop by Vintage Vogue Consignment and we would be thrilled to help you shop for your upcoming travels.
Happy trails!
